The Mausoleum of Prince Alexander I of Battenberg, located at 81 Vasil Levski Blvd, 1000 Sofia, is an important historical monument and the final resting place of the first ruler of the Principality of Bulgaria after the Liberation. Prince Alexander I of Battenberg ruled the country from 1879 to 1886. After his death in 1893, his remains were transferred and buried in Sofia in 1898. The building was constructed between 1895 and 1897, designed by Swiss architect Hermann Mayer. The architecture combines elements of Neoclassicism and late Baroque, impressing with its symmetrical composition, dome, and richly decorated interior, the work of artist Haralampi Tachev. The mausoleum is situated in the central part of Sofia, near Sofia University and other significant cultural landmarks. Today, it is a branch of the Regional Historical Museum – Sofia and represents a valuable part of the capital's historical heritage.
