Central Mineral Baths

Visit the Central Mineral Baths and "Banski" Square in Sofia, an iconic place with a rich history, architecture, and mineral springs.

The Central Mineral Baths and "Banski" Square are among the most iconic places in the center of Sofia. The building of the former municipal mineral bath was constructed between 1906 and 1913, based on designs by architects Petko Momchilov and Friedrich Grünanger. It combines elements of Art Nouveau, traditional Bulgarian architecture, and Byzantine influence. In the past, the bathhouse was an important public and therapeutic center, thanks to the mineral springs that have been connected to Sofia's history for centuries. After restoration, the building was repurposed, and in 2015, it became home to the Museum of the History of Sofia. "Banski" Square is located in close proximity to other famous landmarks such as the Central Mineral Baths, the "Banya Bashi" Mosque, and the ancient Serdica complex. The area is a favorite stop for tourists and city residents.
